N.E.R.D.’s “Nothing” album was revamped only weeks before its anticipated release date. The group felt like there was too much flesh on the album, and went through a rigorous process of cutting away excess details, and leaving only the essence. It’s such a great story, but I always felt like the cover art didn’t match the anecdote. (Not to mention the indigenous motif that did not age well)

I designed a typeface consisting of just five basic building units, to reflect the back story. Then I used it to redesign the LP package.
